DISTRICTS/ DIOCESAN COUNSIL

When we are trying to alleviate the needs of our neighbors, it is easy to lose sight of our mission. Almost 100 years ago, the then International President-General emphasized that we should always bear in mind what makes SVdP so unique - first and foremost is the spiritual growth of Vincentians. "The Society has two aims: to do a good deal of moral benefit to its members through the practice of charity, and to do some spiritual and temporal service to a few poor families in the name of Jesus Christ." The organization would cease to exist if it failed to combine these two objectives. In the event that it was only concerned with the sanctification of its members by means of pious exercises, there would not be a shortage of Confraternities and Third Orders to fulfill this need. On the other hand, if it were only to seek to alleviate the temporal afflictions of the poor, it would only be another public or private institution devoted to that cause.

Interested in learning more about how to become a Vincentian or need assistance? Feel free to contact one of our conferences below.

Walk for The Poor

During the event, much needed funds are raised in order to assist the four St. Vincent conferences in the county. These conferences provide food, clothing, household goods, and financial assistance to needy families and individuals.

Nearly 100,000 people have been helped by these conferences over the past year, with the assistance of approximately 550 volunteers. These efforts amounted to approximately $1,250,000. Volunteers from our conferences also visit individuals in prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, and a veteran's care facility.

San Antonio

The St. Vincent de Paul Conference at San Antonio Church is a part of an international organization of lay persons. Their ministry is modeled after that of our patron, St. Vincent de Paul. Our Vincentians serve those in need and poverty. Among them are the homeless, the sick, and the elderly. Its spirit of humility and sharing is cultivated through prayer and reflection. Our wonderful volunteers devote many hours each month to helping those in need.

Once a month, non-perishable food is provided from the St. Vincent de Paul pantry in San Antonio, as well as financial assistance with utility bills (water or electric). The San Antonio Church and its members as well as friends in the community provide generous donations of food and money to our ministry.

St. Charles

A primary objective of our organization is to raise and distribute charitable capital to fight hunger and to provide financial assistance to needy families and individuals in Charlotte County.

We provide assistance to the needy with rent, utilities, and miscellaneous expenses, as well as food. A bag of food, including meat from the freezer, is usually provided to each average-sized family. In addition, we have a Thrift Store on the premises that offers clothing and shoes for all ages, as well as household items.

All donations to St Vincent de Paul remain within the organization and are given back to the community. This assists those who are so desperately in need during these hard economic times. Because all of our members are volunteers, no remuneration is given to them for their dedicated service.

Our ministry is dedicated to helping those in need and the less fortunate in Charlotte County.

On the first weekend of every month, St. Charles Borromeo Church collects monetary and food donations to assist us with our work. We are extremely grateful to be associated with such a charitable parish.
